FPAC has plenty to do this month

The Rome Symphony Orchestra will grace the FPAC stage Oct. 23. Visit the FPAC website to purchase tickets.

The Falany Performing Arts Center has only a few events left in the month of October. The performances include The Rome Symphony Orchestra, The University Opera and Virginia Rep on Tour.

“The Falany Performing Arts Center is the hub of live performing arts for Reinhardt University and the local community. Guests will enjoy experiencing a wide variety of performances from theatre to opera, comedy to jazz,” said Jessica Akers, director of the Falany Performing Arts Center. “Well-known artists such as Doc Severinsen, The Manhattan Transfer and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra have graced the stage, and have asked to return thanks to their enjoyment of the audience engagement and the acoustics offered in the 350-seat hall.”

Many of those seats might be filled when the Rome Symphony Orchestra comes to FPAC to perform.

The RSO will grace the FPAC stage with their presence as they come to Reinhardt Oct. 23 to entertain.  The RSO is a group of local professors, teachers and graduate students from local universities, colleges and high schools in the Rome area. The RSO is led by Musical Director/Conductor Richard Prior. Admission costs $25-$30 for adults, $20-$25 for seniors (55 and older), and $10-$15 for children 12 and younger.

From the strings of an orchestra to voices of the opera, the University Opera program will be performing this month, as well.

The University Opera is a program the gives students who are interested in becoming professional opera singers a chance to gain experience. This program does not just give them opera experience, it gives students an all-around theatre experience on how to act, design sets and make costumes just to name a few of the skills gained from being a part of this program, according to the FPAC website. The University Opera will have a performance on Oct. 27. It will be a two-hour event full of singing and acting. Admission costs $12.50.

“Known for its marvelous architecture, including the unique feature of a tunable stage, The Falany boasts nearly perfect acoustics for every performance while sitting in a comfortable and intimate environment,” Akers said. “The limited seating combined with the layout of the venue allows guests to interact with artists, never missing one moment of performance. Guests come from all over the North Georgia area to enjoy the season, which hosts over 20 professional performances and 40 performances from the School of Performing Arts.”

A Halloween-type show is another performance set for October at the FPAC. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” performed by Virginia Rep on Tour, is set for Oct. 30. The play will finish out Reinhardt’s Homecoming Week next week.

The play is based off of the book written by Washington IrvingThe story is about a man who is trying to win a woman’s hand in marriage. The story is told through a funny ghost story. The play will be more of a comical ghost story than a scary fear-evoking tale, making it perfect for the whole family, according to the FPAC website. Admission costs $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (55 and older) and $5 for children 12 and younger.  Virginia Rep on Tour, formerly known as Theatre IV, was founded in 1975 and has been on a roll ever since then. On Feb. 1, 2001 the Pentagon asked Theatre IV to open their Black History Month celebration with a production of Buffalo Soldier.
