Diane Petty works with students from around the state and from different backgrounds as the coordinator of Reinhardt University’s online Bachelor of Business Administration program.
“The BBA is a degree completion program where our focus is on giving the non-traditional student an opportunity to complete a degree and still maintain a family and work life balance,” she said. “We recently added an online Associate of Business Administration degree. This program gives those who want to earn a degree but do not have the credit hours needed to go into the BBA a chance to start their education.”
Teaching students how to use the skills they learn in class is one of her favorites – Project Management is a student-led, hands-on class, allowing students to really implement their skills.
“The class takes on a community service project turning a concept into a well-planned and successful event. Students learn to work together and with other community groups. They learn to be flexible and adaptable in unexpected situations that don’t always go as planned,” Petty said.
Petty has been a part of the Reinhardt family in different capacities since her high school days, and the family nature of the University is something she encourages students to embrace.
“Reinhardt is a family and no one ever really leaves. We always find ways to be a part of the Reinhardt community. Get to know people. Get to know the community. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
Petty’s first connection to Reinhardt was as a dual-enrolled high school student. She returned in the late 1990s to work in the business office and vice president of academic affair’s office. During this time, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and returned in March 2016 to develop the online BBA program.
Petty has 30-plus years of teaching, training and supervisory experience and has always had a keen business knowledge and passion to teach the skills necessary to reaching success, inside and outside of the classroom
“I believe that learning to apply concepts taught in the classroom is a key to becoming successful outside the classroom. There is an old saying that reflects this thought: ‘Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.’”
