Reinhardt students will show what true friendship is all about with “The Good Times are Killing Me” April 11-14.
Susanna Grimsley performs as “Edna Arkins,” a young girl who recounts her relationship with her best friend “Bonna Willis,” played by Anya Cutter. Set in the 1960s, Edna tells the story of her childhood, her family and Bonna through trials of their time.
“I have learned so much about performing from this amazing cast and directing them,” said Grimsley.
Cutter’s portrayal of Bonna taught the performer about herself, describing her character as a tough girl with a soft heart, who opens herself upon meeting Edna when she moved to Seattle, Washington in 1969, a time when American society enforced segregation.
“She’s so strong through adversity, and I’ve been trying to channel this to my everyday life,” said Cutter. “And even when she is hurt, she gives others a second chance.”
According to Grimsley, the show is a story all can relate to, with “messages of love, acceptance and the importance of family and friendship.”
“People should come see ‘The Good Times’ for its humanity,” Cutter said. “The characters are relatable and make for heart-wrenching storytelling.”
The production will show April 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. and April 13-14 at 3 p.m. at the University Theater. Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased by emailing boxoffice@reinhardt.edu or online at Reinhardt.tix.com.
