Reinhardt’s student-athletes may already be training for the approaching school year; however, Reinhardt Athletics will take a moment to reflect on the previous year’s successes at the Third Annual Reinhardt Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (RESPY) Awards Show.
The RESPY Awards will celebrate the 2018-19 season by gathering to honor the academic and athletic achievements of Reinhardt student-athletes in an award show setting, this year themed as “Cirque de SOAR-leil.”
“Each year, student-athletes work hard from sun-up to sun-down perfecting their goals in class, on the field and on the court. The RESPYs is a great chance to honor those, from past and present, who have won championships, individual awards and have maintained at least a 3.7 GPA,” said athletics graduate assistant, Angel Cornista ‘19, a previous RESPY award winner and recent graduate who played volleyball and lacrosse.
Jeffrey Pourchier, associate athletic director, has had a hand in planning the award show since its inception. He finds that the opportunity the RESPYs presents to celebrate RU’s athletes creates a positive environment among the teams.
“We’re grateful for the chance to recognize the effort and hard work our athletes invest into every practice and game, along with the time put into earning their degrees,” said Pourchier.
The RESPY Awards is Aug. 29 at James and Sis Brown Athletic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the program starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for general admission are $10 and students can attend for free. A special VIP ticket is available for $25 and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert at the President’s Home at 5:30 p.m. Purchase tickets here.
“We want to share the ceremony with athletes and coaches, as well as the student body who also support the sport teams here at Reinhardt,” said Cornista. “Come dressed in business casual attire and celebrate with desserts, prizes and more.”
