The history of women is paved with accomplishments and empowering stories, so it is no wonder that Reinhardt University’s Student Affairs couldn’t let the month of March – Women’s History Month – go by without acknowledging those stories. In a time where in-person gathering has been complicated, due to the impact of COVID-19, the Student Activities Council (SAC) still thought it was vitally important to honor the achievements of these remarkable women. This student-led organization has tackled the hurdle of hosting events for the Reinhardt community amidst a pandemic with unique creativity and planning.

“We believe it is really important to represent and highlight Women’s History Month. SAC is excited about the opportunity to educate the Reinhardt community on the impact and long history of accomplishments from various women. Women have contributed to society in such a way that we cannot let this go by without celebrating,” said Reagan Cipollina, early childhood education major and president of Student Activities Council.

For Women’s History Month, Cipollina and her team came up with a series of in person, socially distanced events. “You Go, Girl!”, an annual event held by SAC during Women’s History Month, where students write encouraging notes to female faculty and staff. An RU Leads seminar will be hosted by Karen Hawley, assistant professor of education, and Tami Smith, assistant professor of early childhood education, to discuss what positive leadership does for a work environment. Other events include “Paint Night: Frida Edition,” “Cupcakes and Conversation” and “Love Yourself.”

Student Activities did not stop there, making sure to acknowledge Women’s History Month on social media platforms as well. Posts throughout the week highlight women in history, such as Marsha Johnson, Josephine Baker and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

“SAC member Aidan Blockley had come up with this idea for Black History Month and we loved it so much, we decided to do it for Women’s History Month as well,” said Reagan.

The Reinhardt Student Activities Council continues to plan and orchestrate exciting events on campus. Combined with the leadership Assistant Director of Student Activities and Orientation Sloane Day, Student Affairs enables students to continue meeting and gathering safely to enjoy student life on campus.
