Lace up your running shoes, grab your friends, and join the Reinhardt University community for the annual Born to Run 5K on Oct. 30. Don’t feel like running? That’s okay. You can walk. Proceeds support Reinhardt’s Cherokee Scholars program. Oh, and if you want, wear your favorite Halloween costume or show your Reinhardt University blue and gold spirit.
5K Details
The 5K begins and ends in Cannon Park (130 East Main Street) in downtown Canton and will take place rain or shine. Race day registration begins at 7:00 a.m.; the race begins at 8:00 a.m. Preregistered participants can pick up race packets at the Reformation Brewery in downtown Canton from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, or on race day in Cannon Park beginning at 7:00 a.m. The top three finishers, both male and female, in 14 different age categories will receive awards. At the completion of the race, participants are invited to the finish line party with refreshments, water and door prizes (must be present to win).

Cherokee Scholars
The Cherokee Scholars program provides scholarships, up to $2,000 per year, for qualifying Cherokee County residents to attend Reinhardt University. Since the Cherokee Scholars program began in 1988, more than $5.3 million has been given to Cherokee County residents pursuing their dreams at Reinhardt. By running or walking in the 5K, you are contributing to the Cherokee Scholars legacy.
Cherokee Scholars is an important program for Cherokee County students. The program helps students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college, continue their education past high school and pursue careers that might otherwise not be available to them. At the Cherokee Scholars annual kick-off luncheon in August, freshman Daniella Herrera shared with the Cherokee Scholars committee how important the scholarship is to her. Her parents immigrated the United States with nothing and worked hard to build their life here, including raising two daughters. Herrera is the first in her family to attend college. The aid Herrera receives from Cherokee Scholars is part of what makes it possible for her to attend and relieve some of the financial burden from her parents.
“We’re here to help students attending Reinhardt University from Cherokee County,” said Dale Morrisey, senior director, community engagement. Participating in the 5K, supporting the Cherokee Scholars – it’s all about helping these students. I encourage everyone to participate. We want to be able to help more students like Daniella, and every registration in the 5K helps us do that.”
Support at Student
An option on the registration form is to Support a Student. In addition to your own registration fee or in place of your registration, you can opt to Support a Student for $25. For each $25 Support a Student fee you pay, one Reinhardt student will join the 5K. This is just one more way you can support the Cherokee Scholars program. This optional fee is not affected by the Oct. 20 deadline.
