As a university deeply committed to giving back to our community, about two dozen people representing Reinhardt participated in the Relay for Life of Cherokee County, presented by Northside Hospital Cancer Institute. The event in Canton, Georgia on April 13th supported cancer survivors and caregivers, honored lost loved ones, and contributed to the American Cancer Society’s ongoing support services and lifesaving research.
While surpassing their fundraising goal, the Reinhardt team also made a meaningful difference by volunteering and spreading the word. University mascot Soar joined the Chick-fil-A mascot to lead the walk.
Reinhardt’s support services coordinator Lendsey Bishop was honored to be a part of this event, “Being a part of the Relay for Life was a life-touching moment. The walk around the park, as families remember their loved ones who are currently fighting, in remission, or the ones who have passed before us, was very emotional. I have personally lost close family members to cancer, and it is hard to experience and lose someone to such a horrible disease. I am grateful to have been a part of this weekend and help raise money for a wonderful cause.”
Bishop was a team captain, alongside Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Elizabeth Smith. Reinhardt Director of Human Resources Kristy DeBord assisted with coordination. Knowing employees among those battling cancer, DeBord was proud to see the outpouring of support for the cause, symbolizing hope, and the power of collective action.
