With profound sadness, Reinhardt University announces the death of William “Bill” DeAngelis (1946-2024). Dr. DeAngelis served the University from 2002 to 2015 in roles including dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences and the program director for the Psychology Department. He passed away on August 1st after a brief illness.
Dr. DeAngelis played a key role in the University’s academic growth, including adding a political science major in 2011, and in the new addition to the Samuel Dobbs Science Center. After his retirement, he remained passionate about higher education and published a peer-reviewed article under the Reinhardt University banner.
A ceremony this past April bestowed emeriti status to recognize his contributions and legacy. Praising comments included a former student who said, “Dr. DeAngelis was such a great source of knowledge, and he really knew how to make class amazing. He always wanted us to look beyond the surface for a fuller understanding.”
In 2023, DeAngelis reflected on fond memories of interacting with students and his appreciation for their achievements saying, “Reinhardt does an excellent job producing educated, well-rounded, decent citizens who will make Georgia a better place.”
DeAngelis earned a Ph.D. in Biopsychology at the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctorate at the Emory University School of Law. He became a member of the Georgia Bar and opened a private law practice in Decatur, GA.
DeAngelis is survived by his wife Betty, who asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral or Reinhardt University.
