Student musicians in Reinhardt’s School of the Arts showed off their talents on October 22nd in Flint Hall at the annual Reinhardt University Concerto Competition. Held since 2009, the event showcases their wealth of solo instrumental abilities.
Competing students prepared for months, working with RU artist affiliates who comprise the highly credentialed professional instrumental faculty coaching piano, woodwind, brass, guitar, and percussion students. Judges included Dr. Kerry Bryant, Director of Instrumental Activities, and Mr. Casey Eubanks, Director of Orchestra at Shiloh High School in Lilburn, GA.
Trumpeter Hayden Laney (RU-2026) won the competition and will solo with the RU Wind Ensemble in an upcoming concert. Meagan Rees (RU-2027) became the runner-up for her trombone performance. Both are pursuing Bachelor of Music Education Degrees. Laney gave thanks to his instructors who enhanced his skills and expressed, “I’m very thankful for this opportunity and honored to have been selected to perform as the soloist for our February Concert.”
