This summer’s residency for Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing students begins June 14 and concludes with graduation on June 24. Each graduate is paired with a well-known writer to give free public evening readings. The reading series is their night to shine by reading some of their best work.

All are welcome to attend in the Hill Freeman Library Community Room on June 14 and June 16-22 at 7:30 pm. Authors include Zachary Steele, the author of four novels, including The Weight of Ashes, which was nominated for Georgia Author of the Year in 2021.

Friday, June 23 is a night of laughter and drama at the Reader Theatre: six short plays performed in the Hoke O’Kelley Auditorium in the Burgess Administration building.

Irish poet Annemarie Ni Churreáin is the featured speaker at the MFA Commencement at 5pm Saturday, June 24 in the Hoke O-Kelley Auditorium.

All events are in the Hill Freeman Library Community Room except when noted.

Wednesday June 14

7:30 p.m. Donna Bearden & Dawn Major

Grad student, Donna Bearden will present her graduation reading. Fiction writer, Dawn Major will read from her debut novel, The Bystanders.

Friday, June 16

7:30 p.m. Elaine Brown and Donna Little

Grad student, Elaine Brown will present her graduation reading. Donna Little will read from her forthcoming novel, Wofford’s Blood.

Saturday, June 17

7:30 p.m. Randy Howard & Andrew Winkelmann

Grad student, Randy Howard will present his graduation reading. Fiction writer, Andrew Winkelmann, will read from his debut novel, The Guava Tree.

Sunday, June 18

7:30 p.m. Althea Hughes and Daniel Black

Grad student, Althea Hughes will present her graduation reading. Poet, Daniel Black will read from his assortment of poetry.

Monday, June 19

7:30 p.m. Jessie Latimer & Laura Newbern

Grad student, Jessie Latimer will present her graduation reading. Poet, Laura Newbern will read new poetry, as well as standards.

Tuesday, June 20

7:30 p.m. Sara Register & Megan Volpert

Grad student, Sara Register will present her graduation reading. Megan Volvert, a hip-raconteur of the urban mind, will read from her more recent work.

Wednesday, June 21

7:30 p.m. Sarah Syverson & John Williams

Grad student, Sarah Syverson, will present her graduation reading. John Williams will present from his newest book, Monroeville and the Stage Production of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Thursday, June 22

7:30 p.m. Scott Wylie & Scott Wilkerson

Grad student, Scott Wylie, will present his graduation reading. Fame librettist and poet, Scott Wilkerson will dazzle the audience with a sample of his recent work, Cruel Fever of the Sky.
