The University’s affiliation with the United Methodist Church often welcomes families and students who spend much of their lives serving the church, and Reinhardt provides opportunities for these students to thrive.
The Annual United Methodist Scholarship Golf Outing raises critical scholarship dollars for students to obtain their degrees in a challenging and supportive learning community. This year’s outing – the 26th annual event — raised $25,550 in scholarship dollars.
“We are grateful for the sponsors and players who supported this annual event that serves students who plan to enter the ministry or are children of Methodist clergy,” said Dale Morrissey, senior director of constituent engagement. “It was a beautiful day to play golf in support of Reinhardt students at Bent Tree Golf Club.”
The Blanche Hagan Scholarship was established to support students whose parents served in ministry. The Hagan Scholarship also supports students who are active members in the United Methodist Church and students pursuing a career in ministry.
The winning team, with a score of 53, included of Paul Bolding, Andrew Duncan, Don Richards and Larry Adams who played on the Lake Arrowhead UMC Team.
The lowest gross team score was 54 from team Sam Jones UMC, with Patrick Jones, Kevin Parker and Travis Popham.
The second-place low net team was Mark Christensen, Steve Cain, Ron Hunter and Taylor Turner. The third lowest net score was Mark Danzy, Paul Boone, Brian Hallman and Pierre Kimball.
The second lowest grossing team was from Hickory Flat UMC, with Stephen Clay, Matt Nelson, Hunter Clay and Jake McWhorter. The third lowest gross team was Van Williams, Mike Cowart, Bill Lawrence and Ron Flowers.
The Longest Drive and Most Accurate Drive titles were both given to Al Orendorff, who was also one of the players who made it Closest to Pin on Par 3’s, along with Alan Tarr, Mark Christensen and Herb Ernest. Bill Mason was the winner of the Putting Contest.
Next year’s Golf Outing will move back to where it started at Lake Arrowhead Country Club. Save the date for Wednesday, May 20, 2020.
