Reinhardt’s faculty are often hard at work as professors and as scholars, contributing to their fields and then reporting back the findings from their educational realms to their students, using experience as expertise. In 2018, creative writing professor Bill Walsh produced his own works and published his seventh book, “Fly Fishing in Times Square,” earning him this year’s Faculty Artistic Award.
“I was very honored, of course, because I know how much talent there is on the RU faculty,” said Walsh. “To be recognized by the administration, it made me feel as if I had arrived, so to speak.”
The title of his book, published by the Červená Barva Press Editor’s Poetry Series, was a group effort, one that a number of faculty weighed in on. Walsh is very much an active member in the Reinhardt community, but his work also reaches a broader audience.
“Bill is a major Southern poet and scholar, and his book adds to his body of sharp and poignant poems about family, memory and history,” said Dr. Donna Little, English professor.
Along with being a poet, Walsh also directs Reinhardt’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program, one that is known for its location in the Etowah Valley and its unique experiences, including working closely with esteemed faculty.
