In honor of Donate Life Month, the Cauble School of Nursing & Health Sciences will host a high-fidelity trauma simulation on April 4 at 10 a.m. at the University Theater. The community is invited to attend.
Named “Trauma Drama,” the simulation will take a different perspective than most trauma simulations, as it showcases the life of an organ recipient as a result of the organ donation after the trauma.
“Our ‘Trauma Drama’ will highlight the gift of life, the person and family who chose, out of their extreme grief, to think and give to others,” said Cauble School of Nursing & Health Sciences dean, Dr. Glynis Blackard. “It is an amazing gift.”
Attendees will learn about the Cauble School of Nursing & Health Sciences and the resources provided to nursing students and first responders, along with information about medical care of trauma patients and organ donation. Medical flight team members, nurse coordinators, medical educators and a chaplain will speak on their involvement in traumatic situations.
Blackard described this as a “multi-school event,” with various schools of Reinhardt teaming up to participate in this unique event. LifeLink, an organ procurement organization, along with LifeForce – the air evacuation program – and Erlanger Hospital, are volunteering to participate in the simulation.
The event is open to the community. It is recommended that those attending should arrive by 9:45 a.m., as the event will begin at 10 a.m.
