The first Community Gathering of the fall 2019 semester will host two former members of Congress to exchange ideas on government leadership.
Community Gatherings are academic events hosted for members of Reinhardt University and the surrounding community to engage in conversations on topics from international travel to Pine Log Mountain. This event will create a space to discuss congressional leadership and steps of action for leaders to take during a time of polarization in the United States.
“Reinhardt University is pleased to offer our students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community an opportunity to meet former legislators Dan Miller and David Minge through the Congress to Campus organization, based in Washington, D.C.,” said Provost Dr. Mark Roberts. “This is an excellent opportunity for our campus community to join together to discuss important topics related to civic engagement and public service.”
The gathering will take place in Flint Hall at Falany Performing Arts Center on Monday, Sept. 16. The hour-long program will start at 6 p.m.
Miller and Minge will represent with their knowledge and experience as former U.S. legislators across the span of two days on Reinhardt’s campus. The two will engage with students from First Year Seminar, political science, history and the honors program, along with an opportunity for other majors, in order to talk about the responsibilities and challenges of their positions.
Miller is a former Republican legislator from Florida, who served from 1993-2003. He is no stranger to Georgia, as he was part of Georgia State University’s faculty. After becoming a businessman in Sarasota, Fla., he joined Congress and served for 10 years.
Representing a different perspective on political views is former Democratic legislator from Minnesota. He served from 1993-2001. Before serving in Congress, Minge practiced and taught law.
Join Reinhardt in a conversation about government leadership with experienced representatives. The event is free and open to the public.
