Throughout each semester, Reinhardt’s students are hard at work, researching their unique interests and participating in enlightening experiences in the classroom, on stage and even across the globe.
The 11th Annual Robert L. Driscoll Convocation of Artists & Scholars showcased students who highlighted expertise in their areas of study by presenting research and performing their talents.
President Kina Mallard initiated the Convocation by discussing undergraduate research, its importance and how it progresses the success of students.
“Faculty and students walk alongside each other when they do undergraduate research. When we are investing in undergraduate research, we are investing in your future,” said Mallard. “This is a day to be proud.”
Out of all the events that occur throughout the academic year, Provost Mark Roberts said the Driscoll Convocation excites him the most.
“With the Convocation, our community has the opportunity to peer inside the ‘deep learning’ that has been occurring with our students,” said Roberts. “It’s the time when our artists reveal their unique visions; it’s a time when our scholars unveil their most enlightening analyses about the subjects on which they’ve been focused. In the end, COAS is about learning and sharing that learning with others.”
The first day began with the Research Conference, followed by the exhibition and presentation of science and math posters. The Experiential and Service Learning concluded the afternoon, with the “Evening of Honors” closing out the day by further recognizing Reinhardt’s committed student body.
Wednesday morning continued the Convocation with presentations in Education and Sport Studies, Performing Arts, FYS (First Year Seminar) and Nursing. Honor societies were recognized, and the evening wrapped up with creative writing readings.
Two students were recognized for their community engagement during their time as students at Reinhardt. Paige Oglesby was awarded the Regional Service Award and Aliyah Reeves was awarded the Regional Studies Award.
The International Culture Fest rounded out the week with presentations of Reinhardt’s many cultures in the form of food, music, clothing and various representations of students’ heritage.
