A Reinhardt faculty member since 2005, Dr. Anne Good has spent more than 10 years helping her students gain a better understanding of history both in and out of the classroom. Her dedication was rewarded at this year’s Evening of Honors when she received the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award.
“The recipient of the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award demonstrates the use of creative and innovative instruction, availability to her students inside and outside of her classroom, exhibits sensitivity to diversity of the students and illustrates a deep commitment to educating the whole person,” said Provost Dr. Mark Roberts.
The annual Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award is given through the Georgia Independent College Association and sponsored by Vulcan Materials Company’s Southeast Division.
“Winning this award means a great deal to me. It is a wonderful feeling to know that a student remembered my work in and out of the classroom and cared enough to nominate me,” said Good. “We have so many talented, interesting faculty members at this University—it just makes me very happy that the committee saw merit in my work.”
Good recently traveled outside the classroom to spend time researching in Washington, D.C. with Madeline Gray ’18, recipient of the first Engaged Learner Award. Good also spends time away from the classroom in order to conduct research of her own—such as her Spring 2018 sabbatical to further research on the multi-cultural world of colonial South Africa in the early 1700s—offering more knowledge to students through her own discoveries.
“Often people have the idea that doing research is separate from teaching. It has never been that way for me. I bring stories, methodologies and controversies from my research into the classroom all of the time.”
A dynamic faculty member, Good offers diverse international courses and assists with International Culture Fest and the Quality Enhancement Plan, which makes study abroad a greater possibility for Reinhardt students.
Good has been a driving force in the history department as program coordinator and continues her help now with the creation of the Museum Studies minor, launching in the 2019-20 school year.
Meanwhile, Dr. Anne Good continues to love and encourage her students as she continues to be the best professor possible.
“Getting an award like this lets me know that I must be doing something right.”
