Dr. Anthony Daniel began using the Global Business (GLO-BUS) simulation to teach students decision-making skills based on concepts discussed during class and in all areas of business. That classroom experience has earned Daniel’s class a seventh-place ranking worldwide.
“The GLO-BUS simulation exercise bridges the gap between textbook concepts and real-world applications. Students are presented with industry data from which they make operating decisions that impact financial ratios of the business,” said Dr. Steve Morse, dean of the McCamish School of Business & Sport Studies.
The simulation is used in 19 countries across the globe for over 11,000 class teams – more than 1,400 classes in 233 colleges.
Daniel said the purpose of GLO-BUS is to “provide the student with the knowledge of the impact of systems thinking through a variety of application.” Students are given scenarios that business leaders face and must apply a variety of business concepts in order to develop prime solutions.
The simulation is beneficial because it will not only enhance decision-making skills but also will help students realize the impact of choices made while working for a business.
“Learning from a systems perspective provides students with the knowledge of conceptual application in the world of business,” said Daniel.
Morse sees the success of Daniel’s business students as a direct reflection of the rigorous and applicable work taught in the classroom.
“When I found out how well Dr. Daniel’s business students ranked, I knew this reflected the challenging class and outstanding instruction of Dr. Daniel’s Strategic Management class, and the outstanding work our students did in evaluation business decisions they made,” Morse said.
