Thanks to a grant from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE), over a dozen Reinhardt University faculty members experienced an opportunity to enhance their abilities to help students link learning to leadership and service.
On December 5, 2023, Dr. Kenneth Wheeler, Charity Robertson, Dr. Amy Cottrill, Robin McNally, Tunji Adesesan, George Blankson, Dr. Andrew Jones, Dr. Susana Solomon, Kylie Stover, Shannon Gibson, Dr. Melissa Hickman, Elizabeth Smith attended a retreat.
They read and discussed several books about the vocational discernment of undergraduate students. The books clarified the importance of opportunities for students to engage in important conversations and activities that help them identify their strengths and talents, and how they can use those abilities to make a difference in the communities that matter to them.
The group examined ways to help students develop a sense of purpose that they would carry with them after graduation to have an impact, foster resilience, and find personal fulfillment.
Reinhardt and its educators are enthusiastic about helping students connect their passions with their career paths. This retreat was the launching point for the goal of impacting every part of campus, connecting students and curricular and co-curricular experiences. Regular discussions are planned, and in March, Dr. Amy Cottrill, Dr. Anne Schantz, Dr. George Blankson, and Tunji Adesesan will attend the NetVUE conference in Atlanta.
Reinhardt celebrates its relationship with NetVUE and the joint mission to support and enrich vocational exploration and discernment while establishing a greater sense of community.
