Dr. Cory Schantz has been a dedicated and impactful professor since coming to Reinhardt University in 2013 as assistant professor of music and director of opera. Whether it is through one-on-one voice lessons or through the six opera productions he has directed or co-directed, he goes out of his way to make sure his students know that they are cared for and are capable of pursuing their dreams.
“I want students to take away that I care and that they can accomplish their dreams if they have a plan and dedicate themselves to pursuing that plan.”
Schantz earned degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University (B.M.), Austin Peay State University (M.M.) and the University of Oklahoma (D.M.A.) and has been a star both on the stage and in the classroom. He has earned various roles with the Atlanta Opera, and even made his Carnegie Hall debut as baritone soloist in Hӓndel’s Messiah.
When asked what he would tell incoming freshman about the Reinhardt experience Schantz stated, “It is a challenging, but supportive atmosphere. Students must learn to budget their time and take care of their physical and mental well-being.”
Schantz is currently assistant professor of music but was recently granted tenure and promoted to associate professor, effective August 2019. In his free time, he enjoys going to the gun range and volunteering at Georgia Draft Horse Rescue.
