Sarah Lowe joined Reinhardt five months ago as the Student Health Center Assistant. Her job involves organizing the flow of student and staff traffic for the Student Health Center, scheduling appointments, organizing events, assisting the Campus Nurse and Counselor, and so much more! She also organizes community volunteers and donors to provide nonperishable food, hygiene products, paper goods, and other resources to students in need.
Working in the medical field requires deep commitment and hours of dedicated training, and Lowe more than qualifies. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of medicine from serving in the Navy and as a civilian. “I have extensive experience in trauma training, advanced life support measures, leadership skills, clinical and surgical management skills in both hostile and non-hostile work environments, and much more,” Lowe says of her of time in the military.
In 2017, she retired from the Navy as an 8404 Corpsman then went on to earn an associate of science degree from Vincennes University. Lowe says working in the Student Health Center is enjoyable because, “It allows me to stay connected with people and medical practices while maintaining a manageable work environment.” Plus, her schedule gives her time to further her education. “I am currently enrolled as a full-time student at Chattahoochee Technical College and will be transferring to Reinhardt University in the fall to begin my courses here. Go Eagles!”
She is quick to mention her appreciation for the Reinhardt community – both on and off campus. “I am supported by an incredible group of individuals who have helped guide me in higher education and teach me what it means to work on a university campus for the first time. I have also developed meaningful connections within the community to facilitate programs with the Student Health Center such as the Campus Food Pantry, American Red Cross, and the Living Bridge Center.”
Outside of work, Lowe has varied interests. “I love living tiny!” She lived in a luxury RV during the start of the pandemic in 2020 and says she found that “going tiny clears up my mental health and physical clutter.” Lowe has big plans for the future, which include hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile trail from Mexico to Canada, when her daughter is in college. Don’t be afraid to say “Hi” when you see her around campus on her electric unicycle!
