Do you know about The Pantry at Reinhardt? Located in the Student Health Center, The Pantry is a place where all registered Reinhardt students (on or off campus) can access needed food and hygiene items. “The Pantry is one strategy Reinhardt is utilizing to support and retain our students,” says Walter May, Ph.D., dean of students. “Research shows that college students without reliable food access earn lower grades and suffer higher levels of stress. We want to make sure that no Reinhardt student will ever be worrying about when and where their next meal is coming from.”
Alumna and former educator Susan Buice ’77 understands the impact hunger has on a student’s ability to learn. Buice says, “When I was teaching, I always kept a ‘hungry kid’ drawer in my room. All students knew that they were welcome to come by and get food any time they needed it. I saw what an impact hunger had on them. I don’t want any of the Reinhardt students to be impacted by hunger either.” After recently learning about this campus service, Buice took a trip to the store to help stock The Pantry’s shelves. “Donating to The Pantry is one way I can continue supporting Reinhardt.”
