Reinhardt University is proud to announce the six graduates of its Public Safety Institute. Basic Law Enforcement Training Certifications were presented at a ceremony Tuesday night to Jerelyn Calhoun, Rony Dessaint, Brittaney Dyer, Norman Henson, Benjamin McBurnett, and Matthew Wood. Five of the program’s graduates have already secured positions in law enforcement.
Wood received the Top Gun award for the best shooting average, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and delivered the Class Reflections. Dyer received the Top Academic award and gave the invocation. Dessaint is employed and sponsored by Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and this certificate makes him eligible for promotion.
Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds delivered special remarks. The graduation address was delivered by Chief Paul Conroy, who is retired from the Avondale Estates Police Department.
Assistant Professor, Captain Jeffrey Black told the audience, “We are very fortunate to have individuals of this caliber who want to live a life of service, give back to the community and make our communities a better place to live.”
The program at Reinhardt’s Public Safety Institute is certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. The 20-week course taught by seasoned instructors offers flexible online, evening and weekend sessions for working adults. The certification includes a credit of 15 semester hours of credit towards a Criminal Justice associate degree.
