This fall, Reinhardt University’s Price School of Education (PSOE) launches two new programs for aspiring and current teachers: a Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certification Pedagogy-Only and a Master’s in the Art of Teaching Pedagogy degree. Both fill important regional and statewide needs for more qualified teachers.
The Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certification program allows those with degrees other than education to learn the method and practice of teaching. During this two-semester online program, participants may work while simultaneously earning a state certification to teach or coach in their content area of expertise.
The Master’s in the Art of Teaching (MAT) Pedagogy-Only degree is designed for college graduates with an unrelated degree who hold a teaching certificate. The MAT provides further credentials which in turn also enables eligibility for a pay increase in public middle and high schools. Reinhardt separately offers a MAT in Elementary Education for those with a degree in a different field. Entirely online, these master’s degrees can be completed in three semesters and allow flexibility for those already in the workforce.
“This program is very exciting,” says Tami Smith, director of teacher education. “There is a need for this program in this community. Students graduate with degrees in different academic areas and realize they have a passion for teaching. Those students have found their ‘why’…to make a difference in a child’s life. We are pleased to be able to assist candidates in becoming teachers and to further the education of current teachers.”
