Reinhardt University’s School of Performing Arts maintained its successful reputation at this year’s competition hosted by Georgia National Association of Teachers of Singing this month.
Nine Reinhardt student performers virtually competed and placed at this year’s competition. Around 35 Reinhardt students competed in total.
“We voice faculty could not be more proud of how our students have continued their hard work through such challenging times, having to adapt to a great deal of masked singing and video platform use,” said Dr. Reverie Berger, associate professor of voice. “Through gracious funding for equipment by CITEL and the Goizueta Foundation, we were also able to incorporate video recording assignments into their lesson requirements which helped them prepare for this virtual competition.”
This year, four students placed as state winners. Elana Sobhani shared the state winner title in the Second Year College Musical Theatre Treble category. Riley Ortega also tied her category of Second Year College Classical Treble. Katie Hartel earned state winner for Third Year College Musical Theatre Treble and Alexandra Chappell for Fourth/Fifth Year College Classical Treble.
Ortega also placed first in the Second Year College Musical Theatre Treble category and Julian Schwarz placed third.
Kaitlyn Smith earned the second-place spot in the Second Year College Classic Treble category.
In the First Year College Classical Tenor/Baritone/Bass category, Jared Brooks received second place, and Mason Greer received second in Third Year College Musical Theatre Treble.
Hannah Reich placed third in Third Year College Classical Treble.
