Reinhardt University’s Etowah Valley Writers Institute will feature nationally acclaimed authors Richard Blanco, Stephane Dunn, Christopher Dickey and more this summer on the University campus in Waleska.
“The writing program brings together some of the best writers in the country to discuss techniques on how to tell a better story, how to be more creative, how to pull a reader into your life/story and grab them. We have poets, novelists, screenwriters, playwrights, creative non-fiction, all areas of interest,” said Bill Walsh, of Reinhardt’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program.
Blanco, the fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history, opens the 2017 summer events July 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Flint Hall at Falany Performing Arts Center on Reinhardt’s campus.
The July 6-14 events will include Dunn, whose comments and writings have appeared in national media, including NPR, The Atlantic and CNN.com. Dunn is director of the Morehouse College Cinema, Television and Emerging Media Studies Program.
Christopher Dickey will kick off the James Dickey Colloquium July 12. The event celebrates author James Dickey on Reinhardt’s campus, which also is home to the “James Dickey Review.”
Other notable authors include Earl Braggs, George Singleton, Leon Stokesbury, John Holman, Anne Corbitt, Dr. Pearl McHaney, Dr. Tom McHaney, David Bottoms and Ellen Malphrus.
All summer readings are free and open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Dobbs Science Building on the Reinhardt campus, unless otherwise noted.
