The Alpha Chi National College Honor Society announced the 49 out of 300 Alpha Chi chapters who received the Star Chapter honor, and among the schools listed was Reinhardt’s very own Georgia Mu Alpha Chi chapter.
“Alpha Chi is our cross-disciplinary honor society. Students who receive an invitation must be in the top 10 percent of the junior or senior class – a very high bar,” said Alpha Chi advisor Dr. Joy Farmer. “Our Alpha Chi students distinguish themselves by their strength of intellect and their strength of character.”
To earn this honor, chapters must meet a list of criteria, including inducting members locally, sending at least one student and faculty member to the annual convention, having at least one student present the convention program, nominating a minimum of one student for the national Alpha Chi fellowship or scholarship and the sponsorship of at least one on-campus program to promote the scholarship.
Farmer said the honor as Star Chapter is notable being the chapter is very young, established 15 years ago by former history department faculty member Dr. Odina Gonzalez and Dean of Students Dr. Walter May.
“Our chapter is rare because it enjoys strong financial support from the Reinhardt University administration, which underwrites the national dues and purchases honor medallions and diploma seals for undergraduate members,” said Farmer.
