Dr. Dana Hall, assistant professor of business and MBA program coordinator in Reinhardt University’s McCamish School of Business, recently reviewed a new publication for the Oxford University Press geared at perfecting the first edition of the “Engineering Communication Manual.”
“A request to review a textbook published by Oxford University Press, one of the most revered and prestigious names in higher education, is indeed an honor. The Oxford University Press, a department of Oxford University, is the largest university press in the world and is the second oldest, founded in 1586,” Hall said. “I was particularly intrigued to review a text about Engineering Communication, with the core premise that while professionals are educated to be expert in a specific area, they may not be able to effectively communicate.”
“The Oxford University Press represents prestige and excellence in research. Dr. Hall is an expert in the field of communication and so it was a natural fit for her to be asked to review this book. She provided thoughtful, thorough, and detailed comments that represents that standard of excellence,” said Dr. Kathy Hyatt, dean of the McCamish School.
Hall was requested to edit the book for the Geosciences team at the Oxford University Press in late January. She completed her assignment in February, noting her thoughts that the text “should become a blueprint for other technical communication manuals.”
“This text effectively uses communication principles to demonstrate how communication cannot be separated from the practice of engineering as a profession,” Hall noted to the publisher. “This text demonstrates the inseparability of communication and engineering through the use of examples of authentic engineering writing throughout the book.”
