The Reinhardt community has lost a dear friend. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George W. McClure. He passed away on August 14th at the age of 74. Mr. McClure was instrumental in establishing the Water Treatment Facility for Reinhardt’s campus, which allowed us to expand residence life. The facility is named in his honor.
Mr. McClure was also a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and served as an ex-officio member of the Reinhardt University Board of Trustees from 2010-2012. He was a strong advocate for Reinhardt through his contacts in the business community and civic organizations and he shared his expertise through his service on the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
Mr. McClure’s involvement in the community was paramount. He was in his 38th year as a member of the Cherokee Airport Authority, inducted into the Home Builders Association of Georgia Hall of Fame, past President of the Georgia Home Builders Association, past President of the Atlanta Home Builders Association, a member of the Cherokee Shrine Club, active member of Hickory Flat Masonic Lodge #205, an active member of Hickory Flat Chapter #466 Order of the Eastern Star, past President of the Canton Jaycees, and past President of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 10 am, followed by a memorial service at 11 am at Revolution Church in Canton.
Mr. McClure is survived by his wife Hilda, three sons, two siblings, and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in his memory.
