Casee D (2)

“I was flabbergasted to find out I was nominated for Student of the Year. I am very humbled by the whole experience.” These are the modest words of Casee Disharoon, who will graduate from Reinhardt University this May.

Even though Disharoon says getting her degree is the hardest thing she’s ever done, she will graduate magna cum laude and receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While attending Reinhardt, she also held down a job and cared for her young daughter as a single mom.

Disharoon credits supportive family, classmates and professors with her success. “I never imagined having this kind of relationship with the faculty. They’ve become family to me. They are so encouraging. Sometimes they knew I just needed a hug. It makes me emotional because I truly couldn’t have done it without their help and encouragement. It was really hard, but I pushed myself and I did it.”

Small class sizes are another reason Disharoon says she knew Reinhardt would be the best choice for Nursing school. “I felt like the professor to student ratio was at a level where I could get more one-on-one help. I’m a testament to that.”

After graduation, Disharoon has an offer to work in her dream job. She will be a labor and delivery nurse at Northside Hospital Cherokee. She has a message for her daughter, now seven years old, “I want her to know she can do it too. There’s nothing too big that can’t be accomplished.”
