Over 80 student-athletes from 20 Reinhardt University athletic teams volunteered at the Cherokee County Disabilities Awareness Games (CCDA) on October 25th. Reinhardt Athletics has proudly partnered with CCDA since 2018.
The events at River Ridge High School in Woodstock, Georgia began with the national anthem, a torch run, and a parade of athletes. Throughout the games, Eagles athletes spread out across the field, helping and encouraging the participants to do their best in each event. They facilitated every game, even running races alongside the athletes. While Reinhardt athletes helped make competitors smile and take pride in their accomplishments, the feeling was reciprocal as Reinhardt students felt joy in making a difference. As the memorable day came to a close, CCDA athletes appeared equally excited to have competed well and to have been mentored by collegiate athletes.
Tami Smith, Director of Teacher Education at Reinhardt, helped coordinate the volunteers. She explained, “To see Reinhardt University and special needs athletes unified on common ground is amazing! Reinhardt students- keep making a difference. You are amazing! Children-thank you for letting us be a part of your world. We vow to make a difference!”
