Reinhardt University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre is a program highly focused on preparation for a stage career, concentrating on the major components required for success in the musical theatre word: acting, singing, and dancing. The degree prepares students to audition for major theatre companies with confidence.

What You’ll Learn at RU

The theatre programs focus on all aspects of theatre production – acting, directing, technical design, and literary analysis – and include a strong emphasis on the history of performance art.

By the time you graduate with a degree in musical theatre, you will develop:

Learn a firm foundation in terminology, language, theory, and ideology that reflects the standard concepts used in theatre.
Learn how to prepare for the professional world of theatre in which they will be able to display basic competencies in the following areas: Performance, Musical Theatre Performance, Production, Directing, and Design. Students will demonstrate an understanding of character, motivation, and objective which will be evident in their final projects and presentations performed in their performance and design classes.
Demonstrate appropriate critical and creative thinking skills as well as writing and research skills in theatre history. Students will have a basic understanding of major theatre movements throughout history and how they interacted with, effected, or reacted to their own culture.
Be able to identify different genres and styles of dramatic literature, and be able to evaluate, synthesize, and critique dramatic plays and scenes.

Audition Details and Dates

Auditions in front of members of the music faculty are required for all prospective music and theatre majors.

Evaluations are based on technical and musical proficiency. Eligibility for competitive scholarships is determined at the audition.

The auditions are held in the Falany Performing Arts Center. Use the following address in your GPS/map program to come directly to the building:

199 Fine Arts Drive, Waleska, GA 30183.

To audition to enter the Musical Theatre program, students must have the following:

A 60-90 second contemporary comedic or dramatic monologue from a play
One full musical theatre solo song
A contrasting 32-bar cut of a musical theatre solo song
Two letters of recommendation
A professional headshot
A performance resume

Please note: Using a pianist is required, and one will be provided for your audition. Electronic & CD accompaniments are not permitted. Please provide sheet music.
